Artist Statement

In my studio you'll find an eclectic mix of things - from craft items, random household stuff, to found objects, along with your standard artist's toolkit.  I tinker with all of these elements to allow an organic evolution of my work (anything can follow anything).  It is through a process driven exploration of the materials that my work takes form. This kind of engagement often leads to unexpected outcomes where experimentation enables me to transcend the conscious mind and move into the intuitive realm. My practice is deeply rooted in the intersections of art, gardening and poetry.  Inherent to both poetry and gardening, is an ongoing process of arranging, rearranging and editing. This dynamic shaping or freeform development is mirrored in the studio, and is a crucial aspect of my practice.

My experiences across diverse environments, notably having grown up on four continents within a persistent nomadic lifestyle, have profoundly shaped my cultural and environmental perspectives.  These experiences led me to gardening where I found deep connections to place and community. Immersion in the garden not only shapes my visual field, but also fuels my curiosity and informs my artistic practice.

In the words of Basque artist Eduardo Chillida, 'I feel at home, like a tree planted firmly in its terrain tied to its territory but with its branches open to the world', this ethic of grounded openness lies at the heart of my expression.  Through my work, I strive to create a dialogue between the viewer and the artwork, inviting them to explore their own connections to place, community and the natural world.
